i need the black nights, stars crowded out by fluorescent flood lighting, power companies’ porn. i need the faceless cement under my clicking heels while a white world whirled by, watching through blond hair with blue eyes, disapproving and disappointing. i need to reverse myself, rewind and subtract. watch us twist another fairy tale. i’m gone, three tenths of a second short, missing a three month vacation at WCJDC. sleeping on a couch, i wake up to watch the weekend warriors, weakened and inebriated, puke that last puke and smoke that last smoke. then i resign myself to the wall… hell, it’s more honest than tv. and you see the failed prophylactic and hear the crying and wince. and don’t care. and if you fall again, i’m not catching you. gone are the days of toilets shattered on train tracks, youthful exuberance gone awry, best laid plans of rats and teens.

And then there was a boy. And he melted away under the hot sun and the cold rain. A puddle of me.
